ALRM app on iPhone and Apple Watch

Safety alerts should reach everyone.

In emergencies, critical warnings are often delivered through sound—alarms, announcements, and shouted instructions that not everyone can hear. ALRM transforms those urgent sounds into real-time visual and haptic alerts, helping ensure Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals receive the same life-saving information, at the same moment as everyone else.

Instant Awareness, Equal Access.

Why ALRM Exists

ALRM began with a moment that revealed a gap no one should experience— a realization shaped by real tragedy:

In Maine, an active shooter entered a restaurant hosting a local deaf and hard of hearing cornhole tournament. Someone yelled “get down,” but those who were deaf couldn't hear the warning. Lives were lost. That same year, a prominent deaf couple died in their home—along with their dog—because they couldn't hear their carbon monoxide detector. And in Portugal, a deaf tourist standing on train tracks was killed because she couldn't hear the warnings being shouted at her.

“From those experiences, ALRM was created with accessibility at its core.”

Our emergency systems aren't built for everyone. Airports, schools, and stores rely almost entirely on audible alarms and verbal announcements during emergencies. In many educational institutions, uses the intercom for everything—from medical situations to active shooter protocols which relies on sound that is missing for the deaf person.

There are over 11 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States alone. Every single one of them faces this gap in emergency communication every day. When seconds matter most, they're left without information. And in emergencies, information is survival. The infrastructure already exists for hearing people—alarms, intercoms, verbal warnings. But an entire community has been left out of a system that's supposed to protect everyone.

Accessibility in emergencies isn't optional. It's the difference between life and death.
